Kim Paulus, MFT

My identity as a fat, queer, cisgender, mixed race Vietnamese woman informs my work as a therapist.  I bring a background in social justice activism and organizing, and my own experiences with oppression allow me to bring a sensitivity to how being different in the world can impact one’s inner experience and relationships with self and others.   While my experiences may not be identical to yours, I welcome the opportunity to explore your goals and challenges through a respectful and compassionate lens informed by social justice thinking.

Clinical Approach

I use an eclectic mix of psychodynamic therapy, somatic work, Internal Family Systems, and attachment work, all held within a frame of feminist and relational psychotherapy.

Areas of clinical work

I work with many different issues, but have particular interest and experience in the following areas:

  • Anxiety
  • Impacts of oppression
  • Needs of social justice activists and organizers
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Childhood experiences of neglect
  • Adult children of alcoholics or other substance abusers
  • Life and career transitions
  • Co-dependency
  • Body image
  • Cultural identity

I work with individuals and couples/relationships of any configuration.

Sliding scale from $100 - 150 depending upon need.

I do not accept insurance payments, however, I am able to provide receipts at the end of each month which some clients are able to submit for reimbursement from their insurance providers.
