Nicole Hsiang, MA, MFT

Clinical Approach

Psychodynamic and humanistic

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I offer my careful and close attention and deep respect for your individuality. Whether you are struggling with a specific issue or you simply want a place to speak your mind, psychotherapy is a useful way to learn about yourself, find relief from painful feelings, and take greater responsibility for living the life you want.

I have worked with a diverse range of individuals, adolescents, couples, and families in a variety of clinic settings, as well as school-based counseling with middle school students and hotline crisis work with survivors of sexual violence. I have given talks/workshops on the psychology of Chinese American identity, the importance of maintaining healthy emotional boundaries, and the intersection between psychoanalysis and social justice.

In addition to formal education and training, I find Buddhist psychology and the practice of meditation to be extremely useful in my work. My work background is in social change fundraising, LGBTQ advocacy, sexual violence crisis counseling, youth development, and creative arts.

Areas of clinical work

Depression, anxiety, shyness and social anxiety, low self esteem, career transitions, exploring gender and sexuality, Asian American issues.
