Shawna Sodersten

Shawna trained at the Pacific Center for Human Growth in Berkeley and then in three years of private practice internship with Christy Calame. She has been licensed in her own practice since 2011.

Clinical Approach

Shawna has an eclectic style that draws upon psychodynamic, CBT, humanistic, somatic, and narrative approaches. Her work with relationships is influenced by Ellyn Bader, David Schnarch, John Welwood, and Sue Johnson. Her work is also influenced by Helen Lesser (on boundaries) and Tara Brach (on mindfulness and radical acceptance).

Areas of Clinical Work

Shawna’s work tends to center around increasing self-acceptance and strengthening the

observing self (also sometimes called wise mind or the higher self), and reducing suffering and increasing well-being in relationships (with the self, partners, family, friends, and at work).

Shawna works with adults as individuals or in their relationships.


Shawna’s sliding scale (based on monthly after-tax income) for 2016 is $80-$130. Fees are subject to change. Existing clients receive at least one month’s notice regarding fee changes.


No insurance accepted, but superbills or invoices are available on request for clients who may be eligible for reimbursement from their employers or insurance carriers.
