Victoria de los Santos Mycue, PsyD, LMFT

Clinical approach

I am trained in family systems approach which I use with the children, youth and families that I work with. I also hold an art therapy registration (since 2002) and board certification and use art and creative imagination whenever the client is open to incorporating creativity in their healing process. I am also trained in psychodynamic work, specifically I trained for three years in Control Mastery Theory. This helps me provide a depthful approach to the work while looking at and exploring the client’s beliefs and thinking patterns that impact their experiences in daily life. Whenever possible I also incorporate spirituality that resonates with the client’s own approach to living. I am trained in and use tools from CBT, DBT, EMDR, EFT, and SE, but I see these techniques as helping resolve the larger issues which are embedded in a relational frame, meaning through building trust, safety and familiarity with the client, we are able to work through struggles and reduce symptoms.

Areas of clinical work

I work with individuals to find their embodied voice and to use it in their life to work through disenfranchised experiences (e.g. shame, racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexual trauma, neglect, abandon, abuse, rage, micro aggression and bullying, immigration hardship, poverty, self-regulation and body image struggles, chronic depression, and debilitating anxiety). Together we develop the unique tools the client needs to find their voice, use it, and move toward their goals in an inspired and clear, focused way. I am active in the room, and seek to create a space that is grounded, compassionate, and direct. I use creativity, body-based interventions, knowledge of basic nutrition, the client’s own spiritual beliefs, values, and meanings, and indigenous healing methods (e.g such as burning sage or creating an intention) when ever appropriate to promote a healing environment.
